In early May, leaders at the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and the American Institute of Architects’ (AIA) Committee on the Environment met to collaborate on sustainability issues, in particular, their common goal of building carbon neutral buildings by the year 2030.

The outcome of the meeting is an alliance that will focus on three topics — advocacy, education and research — with 10 possible collaborative projects already open for discussion. The partnership will host an annual meeting and regular leadership meetings, as well as have reciprocal sponsorship at the organizations’ respective annual conventions.

AIA executive vice president Christine McEntee and USGBC president Richard Fedrizzi signed a memorandum on May 28 to endorse the organizations’ alliance.
