WASHINGTON, Feb. 5, 2010 -- Later this month, WPL Publishing will begin providing a multi-media Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Associate (LEED GA) exam preparation program, including webinar sessions and resources.

Registration for this multi-media LEED GA exam preparation program includes the following: four 1.5-hour webinar sessions; two U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) LEED GA exam prep resources: The Core Concepts Guide and Exam Prep Study Guide; and the bonus resource Green Associate Study Guide with Green Building & LEED Core Concepts Guide.

The first 90-minute webinar, entitled "Green Building and LEED Overview," is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Thurs., Feb. 25. Subsequent webinars (each beginning at 1 p.m. and lasting 90 minutes) are as follows: March 4, "Sustainable Sites and Water"; March 11, "Energy and Energy-Related Indoor Environmental Quality"; and March 18, "Materials and Materials-Related Indoor Environmental Quality and Innovation." Terry Miller, a senior consultant and manager of Green Building Services Inc.'s (GBS) Training and Facilitation Division, will present at the webinars. He works directly with clients to scope the creation of training products that enhance their organizations' capacity to apply green building and LEED.

USGBC designed the Green Associate Study Guide to help people become a LEED Green Associate. The study guide pulls together the critical points they need to know about green building. The resource provides study tools such as individual and group learning activities as well as review and practice questions that use the same format as those used on the actual exam.

The Green Building and LEED Core Concepts Guide provides ideas and practices that set the foundation for more detailed study of green building as it relates to specific LEED, green building rating systems, or individual markets and serves as USGBC's reference resource for the LEED Green Associates study guide.  

Job contracts and requests for proposals increasingly require at least one LEED Professional on a project team to qualify for work. A growing number of companies favor job applicants that hold the LEED AP credential over those that do not. The number of green building incentives and requirements across all levels of government is rising dramatically. The program is designed to help professionals show their competence and relevance to the rapidly growing green building market.

The LEED Professional credential is perhaps the most widely recognized and credible accreditation to demonstrate proficiency in green building and LEED. Recent improvements to the program create multiple tiers to acknowledge different experience levels and "specialties" that focus on specific project types.

The new LEED GA credential demonstrates comprehensive, general knowledge in green building and LEED, and is for individuals that support, but may not directly apply, green building in their regular professional work. Examples of fields that might pursue the LEED GA designation only include manufacturing, law, product supply, students, government, marketing, administration, construction, architecture, engineering, and development, among others. The LEED GA credential is also a prerequisite to pursue the next tier of accreditation, LEED Professional with Specialty, which is designed for professionals that directly apply LEED and green building in their practice.

Introduction to Green Building LEED and LEED Exam Prep provides foundational knowledge in green building and LEED and assists in the LEED GA exam. It clarifies the structure of the new LEED Professional Program and educates professionals in the subject matter covered by the LEED exam. Participants will complete the webinar series prepared to complete a final, focused study effort prior to sitting for the exam. The webinar series qualifies individuals to take the LEED GA exam.

This webinar training series has been developed and will be delivered by GBS. The company provides design, construction, and property management professionals with insights, information, and analysis on high-performance building practices. GBS has six LEED faculty members on staff qualified to provide seven USGBC-approved LEED workshops and a multi-disciplinary staff that draws from experience on hundreds of green building and LEED projects.
